The wastewater traetment plant museum ( managed by the company "Museum Satrá Čistírna, o.p.s.") is a listed industrial sight (at the same time) one of the most interesting industrial architecture objects in the Czech Republic. Part of the tours are visits to the underground of the main operating building, where the visitors can learn a lot about the history of sewerage and waste water cleaning. One floor higher, in the steam engine room, two operational Breitfeld & Daněk steam engines from 1903 can be seen. On special occasions, they are shown running. These engines are maintained by means of "Shell - Valvata 1000 oil", supplied by our sponsor, the company Shell Czech Republic a.s.

The plant was supposted to be in operation until the end of the thirties in the previous century, howewer, it served its purpose till 1967, when a new modern mechanical-chemical treatment plant was opened in nearby Císařský island. Even at the beginnings of the eighties, the original sedimentation tanks served as manipulation tanks for sludge from the new plant. Maybe because of this almost endless overuse, the old plant survived into better times. The practically forgotten building was discovered by few enthusiasts in mid-eighties. They started to repair the building. On April 26, 1991 this area was proclaimed ahistorical landmark.

In 1992 that group enthusiasts created "Ekotechnické museum foundation" ("Nadace ekotechnického musea") later transformed into the company "Ekotechnické museum, o.p.s.". In  2011 the companies "Ekotechnické museum, o.p.s. and new founded "Muzeum Stará Čistírna, o.p.s." merged together creating the new company taking the name "Muzeum stará Čistírna, o.p.s.".

On June 1, 2010, the Wastewater treatment plant in Bubeneč, Prague, became a national historic landmark.

Muzeum Stará Čistírna is a non-profit organisation registered with the  Municipal Court in Prague.
